WHAT IS HEALTH?
Health is the level of metabolic efficiency of humans, it is the general condition of a person's mind, body and spirit which are free from illness, injury and pain.
HEALTH & TEENAGE RELATION ?
Health give large impact on adolescent psychology which can lead to emotional disorders or known as teen depression. Depression is a subjective illness that has many causes and many forms. It is a disorder of someone's emotions or attitude that out of control. Depression can be detected by its symptoms.
Symptoms of Depression:
- Sad or depressed mood
- crying
- inability to sleep or too much sleep
- inability to concentrate
- loss or increase appetite
- aches
- feels tired
- thought of suicide
- feels worthless and hopeless
Depression can be classified into two types:
1. Major Depressive Disorder, also known as major depression. This patients do not have ability to work, sleep, study, eat and enjoy the pleasurable activities. Major depression can occur once in a person's lifetime or throughout a person's life.
2. Dysthymic Disorder, also known as dysthymia. This patients usually experience major depressions before.
WHAT CAUSES OF DEPRESSION
- TRAUMATIC LIFE EVENT : any event that causes distress, trauma or major change in lifestyle.
- SURROUNDING CIRCUMSTANCES : teenagers who live in difficult circumstances such as domestic violence, abuse, poverty or others that can cause stress.
- MEDICAL CONDITIONS : sometimes, depression can be a sign of other illness such as premenstrual syndrome.
- MEDICATIONS : medicine can have depression as its side effect. Some illegal drugs also cause depression.
WHAT CAN I DO IF I AM DEPRESSED ?
- Talk to adults, such as your parents , teachers or counselor about what you are facing.
- Discuss with your friends and ask for useful advice from them.
- DO NOT ignore symptoms of depression. GET your depression treated.
TEENAGERS & BODY IMAGE
Teenagers always think that ONLY a thin body is an attractive body and it is important to have thin body so that they will not be treated as WEIRD teen.
HOW WE GET OUR BODY IMAGE ?
There are a few factors that effect our body image
- MEDIA which are the teenagers soul always promote thin women as the model makes teenagers impressed and desire a thin body image.
- PARENTS that too pamper their children with luxurious food and unhealthy lifestyle makes teenagers nowadays suffer obesity.
- HEALTH PROFESSIONAL that comment a teenage body image can give negative impact such as too worry about their body image.
Teenagers that has unattractive body image will stress in figuring out ways to have thin body image. These will lead to eating disorder. Effect of eating disorders are:
ANOREXIA
a disease which people see themselves as overweight even they are not. They will limit their food and exercise too much. This behavior can lead to death.
people who suffer bulimia will vomit what they had ate and practice too much exercise. These can lead to physical illness.
